The mission of the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana, a project of the Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for Excellence at Ivy Tech Community College, is to discover, encourage, celebrate and honor innovations of all kinds found across the seven counties of Northwest Indiana. Each year, the Society turns to the public for help in carrying out this mission.
This is the Society of Innovator’s official call for nominations for the 2017-2018 Innovation Awards. Those eligible for an Innovation Award are any individual or team who develop innovations that transform the lives of those living in Northwest Indiana and abroad. Nominees must live or operate a business in Lake, Porter, La Porte, Starke, Pulaski, Jasper, or Newton counties.
To nominate an innovator for an award, visit the Society of Innovators website and click on the ‘Call for Nominations’ link. Nominations may be submitted between May 5, 2017 and June 5, 2017. If you are nominating an educator or an administrator in education, the nomination time period is from April 24, 2017 to June 5, 2017.
Once you have arrived at the Call for Nominations page, you can read about how the Society defines innovation, the Continuum of Innovation, and the Society’s mission and vision statements. There is also a link to a page the details the do’s and don’ts of a quality nomination. The do’s include ensuring that the person you are nominating is indeed an innovator, not just someone who has accomplished something, and answering all required questions in the body of your nomination. The only don’t is to not discuss the many achievements of the nominee. Use the nomination to detail the innovation.
Individual nominees and their innovations will be judged on the following criteria: innovation, visionary leadership, collaborative spirit, willingness to take risks, and lifelong learner. Team nominees will be judged on: team and team dynamics, culture of innovation, the innovation itself, benefits of the innovation, and the wow factor. The description of each of these criteria is listed on the nomination form.
