Documentary Positions NWI as National Model for Environmental Sustainability

Shifting SandsOne of the largest questions facing today’s world is how to achieve environmental sustainability without compromising our quality of life.

According to environmentalist Lee Botts, the answer may lie right here on the Indiana Dunes National LakLee is one of the producers of the environmental documentary Shifting Sands: On the Path to Sustainability, which has been recognized by the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana. This film describes the environmental and industrial history of the region and how each industry has threatened the other’s existence for centuries. However, the film also argues that the relationship between NWI environmentalism and industrialism may be leading to legislation that can save them both.

The documentary first aired in April of 2016 and has since been shown across 241 public television stations. On June 20, producers partnered with Goodrich Portage 16 IMAX theater to show the film and offer a meet-and-greet with the organizations working on preservation of the lakeshore. The theater and the party room sold out as region residents came to learn about how they can protect their local environment.
