Local Organizations Contribute to Chanute Biplane Dedication

The Octave Chanute biplane glider is an iconic representation of innovation in Northwest Indiana. For this reason, The Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana is commemorating a model of the plane which inspired the Wright brothers’ quest for human flight. The glider will be memorialized on July 14 at Ivy Tech Community College’s Gary Campus in a ceremony that will also serve as the opening of Innovation Way, a gallery which documents the history of aviation in pictures. Several performances, including a flyover by the Tuskegee Red Tails, will surely make for a memorable ceremony. However, this day could not happen without the help of many groups and individuals. Some of the sponsors of and contributors to the event include:

-State Representative Charlie Brown
-Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson
-Indiana Senator Earline Rogers
-ArcelorMittal, USA
-Chicago DODO Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen
-Family Express
-Ivy Tech Community College, Gary Campus
-Lake County Master Gardeners
-Lowe’s Home Center
