Meet local innovators at the NWISOI All-Member Meeting

During the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana’s (NWISOI) 13 years, we have been able to identify some of NWI’s best and brightest when it comes to innovation. Have you heard of the following local innovators?

-Scott Albanese, Founder & CEO, Albanese Confectionery Group, launched the world’s first full-flavored Gummy Bear and recently got a contract to share his product with Walmart nationwide.

-The late Ralph Braun invented the lift to give wheelchair-bound people freedom to drive. Braunability is a multi-million dollar business located in a cornfield in Pulaski County, and its products now sell on four continents.

-Robert Colangelo, Founding Farmer, Green Sense Farms, built the largest vertical farm here in the USA. Now, he is building vertical farms in China to provide cost-effective, quality greens.

-Adela Ortega, Founder, PLS, established the first privately-owned customized locomotive manufacturing and repair facility in NWI. Hers is the first woman-owned independent repair service for locomotives in the USA.

-Milton Thaxton, Jr., (CEO) and Brandon Griffin, (COO) launched SMDG, LLC. This is the first social media marketing firm in NWI, and, also, The Society’s Official Web and Social Media Partner.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. NWI has a rich legacy and boundary-breaking history of innovation. The Society of Innovators is leveraging this innovation not only to recognize, harness and promote innovation, but to continue to change the culture of all Northwest Indiana. Now, we are on a mission to do even more, and your input is needed.

On April 20th, we want your ideas to move The Society forward. Sue Ellspermann, Ph.D., President of Ivy Tech Community College, will give the keynote at our first All-Members Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at NIPSCO, 801 E. 86th Ave, Merrillville. This is also a great opportunity to get to know all of the talented innovators that have become part of The Society over the years.
