Remembering The Savior of Skylab!

Jack  A. Kinzler (1920 – 2014) saved Skylab – the United States’ $2.5 billion space station – with a parasol in 1973. Imperiled by the loss of a thermal shield, this NASA Technical Services Chief improvised by having astronauts install a massive umbrella from the inside of the spacecraft using telescoping fishing rods. This tinkerer also created the flagpole for the moon and the collapsible golf club for Apollo 14.
