South Shore Clean Cities Promotes NWI Innovation Nationally

Our Members represent a variety of different industries across Northwest Indiana and all of them are doing work to promote innovation within our region. However, sometimes our Members so above and beyond to represent the innovative society that is NWI even outside of our seven counties.

South Shore Clean Cities (SSCC) is a Member organization that promotes the use of green energy alternatives in Northwest Indiana. They accomplish this by holding various events that allow attendees to learn and network in the green energy space.

SSCC also has members of their own that enjoy attending events and receiving promotion through the organization.

One event that SSCC hosted in partnership with Chicago Area Clean Cities and Wisconsin Clean Cities last month was the Green Drive$ Conference and Expo. This annual event held at the Northern Illinois University Conference Center is the largest green transportation conference in the Midwest. More than 200 people were in attendance to check out 40 green vehicles and 20 exhibitors. The event also featured presentations by various experts in the clean technology industry.

Through this event, SSCC was able to showcase some innovations coming out of Northwest Indiana on a national stage. But they also do extensive, innovative work locally.

On May 25, SSCC held a more local event. Their Green Fleet Work Zone Safety Workshop brought in presenters from the road construction space to discuss work zone safety for both workers and drivers. The event was held at Hammond Marina and was free to the public.

While SSCC does amazing work in green energy, their public education workshops are innovative in and of themselves. They are a way of bringing people together to learn something new, often free of charge.
